Humorist of the nineties, author of light verse, often in monologue form (cf. Charles Cros, like whom, too, he was an early experimenter in colour photography); of tales and sketches, e.g. Le Parapluie de I'Escouade (1894), On nest pas des bceufs (1896); and of L'Affaire Blaireau (1899), a novel. He was associated with the early days of the Chat-Noir (q.v.) cabaret.
