Né le 4 mars 1842 à Boulay (Moselle).

XIX siècle. Français. Peintre de compositions mythologiques, scènes de genre, portraits.

Élève de Laurent Charles Maréchal, Léon Cogniet, Alexandre Cabanel, à l'École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, où il entra en 1860, il fut pensionnaire du département de la Moselle. Il participa au Salon de Paris entre 1865 et 1882, obtenant une médaille en 1867.

Ses compositions symbolistes, sous une structure assez académique, se ressentent d'une certaine recherche spirituelle.
