Born in Lerida, in Catalonia, 1876; died there, 1915.
Gose, a painter and illustrator, studied art in Barcelona and (from about 1900) in Paris. His pictures glorified society ladies and demimondaines, and his images are inundated with his interest in fashions.
Parisian in spirit, Gose’s drawings exhibit a characteristic Spanish flavor that sets his work apart from his French contemporaries whom he was published alongside in journals Le Rire, and L’Assiette au Beurre.
Oddly, Gose’s success and acclaim as an illustrator for the French journals was superseded by the fame he would win for the illustrations he published with the famous German magazine Jugend.
