Painter, Watercolourist and Illustrator.
The nephew of the poet Sully Prudhomme. Gerbault studied under Paul Louis Collin, Paul Dubois and Henri Gervex later exhibiting at the Bodiniere in 1899 and 1900.
This extremely popular cartoonist, illustrator and poster artist is epitomized by his saucy, "naughty" style and fine drawings full of humour Gerbault devoted himself almost exclusively to sketching in watercolour and worked on a large number of illustrated periodicals including ‘L'Art et la Mode’, ‘Le Courrier Français’, ‘Gil Blas illustre’, ‘Lectures pour tous’, ‘Le Rire’ and ‘La Vie Parisienne’.
Gerbault is celebrated for his illustrated albums: 'Le corps de la femme', 'Broutilles parisiennes' and 'Les Belles au bois', of whom he was the author. In 1897 he contributed to the illustrations of the stories of Charles Perrault. Gerbault also achieved success with his contributions to the theatre.
