Born 1860 at Oullins, near Lyons. Died 1917.
This draftsman, reportedly self-taught, became a member of the "school of Montmartre" in Paris. His contributions to the magazine Gil Blas Illustre in the decade before the creation of L'Assiette were known for their imaginative grace and frequent use of classical allegories—in fact, Balluriau was called "the Boucher of the modern press"— still, his work for L'Assiette au Beurre a few short years later shows him in a more realistic and incisive vein.
