" Les Contemporaines No. 2 - La Belle Otero "

Cappiello made his move from Italy to Paris in the Spring of 1898. This image %u2013issued only a few months later- represents one of the young artists' first published caricatures in the Parisian Press. Cappiello's success with the Les Contemporaines series quickly propelled him into a new sphere of notoriety both among his peers and the public at large. We find this image most compelling as one can already see in Cappiello's likeness of La Belle Otero the early solidification of motifs which would later become his stock in trade.
