" Pierrot - Columbine - Harlequin "
Pierrot is a classic character of mime and of the Commedia dell'Arte. He is a French variant of the Italian Pedrolino, his character, rumored to be up to 4,000 years old is said to have originated in Turkey. Pierrot is a sad clown, pining for love of Columbine, who leaves him for Harlequin, thereby breaking his heart. He is usually dressed on a loose white jumpsuit. He is often portrayed as a naiveté. He is always the butt of jokes and tricks but never stops trusting or hoping and believing, despite reality's evidence to the contrary.
