" Linum Usitatissimum - Common Flax "
One of the oldest cultivars in existence, flax is used for its oil, its fiber content, its medicinal qualities, and its decorative qualities. Its fibers are used to make nets and woven fabrics such as linen. Its seeds are harvested for their oil. The seeds come in two varieties, yellow and brown. Oil from the brown flax-seeds is commonly used in paints and varnishes, the yellow is most common as a health supplement, valued for its Omega-3 fatty acids content, the varieties are interchangeable for their uses. The seeds are also used in cooking, and are commonly included in their whole form in a health conscious diet plan.
